For my final project I decided to pick Option #1. The reason that I chose this option was my lack of interest in writing about MONSTERS. To tell the truth I had a really hard time writing my analysis on Frankenstein. So I thought that I would try to write the same type of essay on something different, to see if I have more success.
I chose to write about Jane Austen. I know that she doesn’t seem too original, but I decided to use one of her novels that most people have not read or even heard about. The text that I specifically chose to write my essay on is Northanger Abbey. The reason that I chose this novel was like I said; a lot of people know who Jane Austen is and they know about her more popular works like Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. However, she has a few novels that not many people have heard about least of all read Northanger Abbey being one of them. The thing that I want to accomplish most when writing this paper is that Jane Austen was not just a silly, female author. That there is more behind her words that we do not understand, that there is a reason why she wrote about the things that she did.
The online library has some great resources to use for this type of research. I will be using some resources that I found on the Databases and Subjects Weblinks and EBook, both found on the Yavapai College Library website. I am also in the process of tracking down the Northanger Abbey: Norton Critical Edition book. I think that with these sources I should be able to find the information that I need to write a successful paper. http://lincoln.yc.edu/tag.122bb5b6797963a2.render.userLayoutRootNode.uP?uP_root=root&uP_sparam=activeTab&activeTab=u73l1s13&uP_tparam=frm&frm=

Hi Andrea,
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen. I think she makes a great choice for this project. I have not heard of the book you are reading, but will have to check it out after this semester is over. Thanks for introducing a new book. Enjoy and good luck with this paper. You will surely have an easier time with it since you are reading something you enjoy.
This was the book that I was originally planning on using as well. I chose to go with The Scarlet Letter instead because I have read it (many years ago) and because I remember there being a lot to it. Recent events have put me a little behind where I'd like to be so I needed to choose something that I was reasonably comfortable knowing I could write about. I am excited to read your essay on this book and I do plan to read the novel once I have time again. It seems very interesting to me and I look forward to reading a fellow classmates ideas on it.
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your post, I wish I would have read option #1 a little closer! This sounds like a great read, and a lot more fun that monsters :)
It sound like you are off to a great start. Good luck!
P.S you have adorable children :)
